Film Fest Opening Night at the Fox

cinemaculturas-eblastThe film festival opens on Friday, Oct. 17 with the film “La Jaula de Oro.” Although the English title is “The Golden Dream,” the title translates literally to “the cage of gold,” a reflection of the expectations and realities of those who brave the journey north to the U.S. The film swept the Mexican Ariel Awards, winning in several categories, including Best Picture, Best Cinematography and Best Screenplay.

Before the film, the Symphonie Jeunesse from San Bernardino will accompany a film montage of Mexican cinema history.

Tickets for the event, which takes place at the Fox Performing Arts Center in Riverside, are now available through Ticketmaster, general seating $20, preferred $25.

Deadline extended for Student Film Competition

studentfilmposter-rev1High school and college students now have until September 27 to submit their creative projects. Our 2014 theme for student films is “Día de los Vivos”/ “Day of the Living.” Latin American culture celebrates Día de los Muertos as a continuation of life.

Films must be under 15 minutes and may address any creative take on what it means to be alive, to celebrate life. We prefer animated films but all genres are accepted.

New Deadline: September 27, 2014.
